Italy by train

Italy is easily one of the most beautiful countries in the world, and unlike other European countries travelling in Italy by train is not very costly. You can easily travel between the major cities like Venice, Florence, Naples and Rome by train; even if you are travelling on a budget and along that you can also take side trips to the coastal cities and towns using the regional train connections.

The train tickets are divided into two types of fare, the first class and the second class. The first class tickets will cost you nearly the double of second class. The local trains are cheaper but you also have the option to connect major cities by train. Trenitalia is the train service here; this is partially owned by the state and is partially privatized. While the faster trains such as intercity and Eurostar Italia only stops at the major cities, the slower regional trains will stop at every station.

Except for the Eurostar trains, it is not mandatory to make a seat reservation for trains; however it is always good if you get one. You can reserve a seat online which is easier than using a human resource software or you even at the station one hour prior to the journey.

Travelling over night is also a good option especially if you are going to visit a different city for which you need to travel long hours. You can book a sleeping compartment or a cucceta for this. The price would be slightly more than the regular fare but in comparison to a hotel stay it would be much cheaper. People travelling on a budget can highly benefit from this option.

Most people used to see travelling by train as an option only for the backpackers or for young people travelling with a low budget. But this view has changed. With the advancements made in train travel, people are using train travel as a way to relax and also to enjoy the view outside.
